Compost Facility Planned for Local Area

In December, 2011, the Kittitas Board of Commissioners held a special meeting to hear a presentation from Larry Condon, SRM Development LLC, a representative for PacifiClean Environmental regarding the potential placement of an Independent Compost Facility in Kittitas County.

Mr. Condon again addressed the Board of Commissioners in May, 2012, and stated that they have property in mind for what could become the largest compost facility on the west coast. This property is located at 860 Thorp Prairie Road in Cle Elum, WA. He explained that if his company is granted a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) from the Board of Adjustments, they will sign the contracts and purchase the land.

What does this mean to residents of Sunlight Waters community?

This facility is proposed to be less than 2.5 road miles from our community.
This facility would add noise and compost pollution (smell) to our neighborhoods.
This facility would add additional traffic from large semi-trucks.
This facility could add an additional fire hazard to the local area.
This facility could reduce the property values of our community.
